MANILA, Philippines – The Mind Museum, a science museum in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig, has been recognized as a “world-class” museum by an international entertainment body.

The Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) gave the museum an award for Outstanding Achievement during the Thea Awards Gala held from April 3 to 5 at Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California.

The Mind Museum is the first science museum in Asia to receive the accolade.

The Thea Awards is widely recognized as the “Academy Awards” of the themed entertainment industry. It has been granting awards since 1994.

TEA, an international organization composed of developers, designers and creators of entertainment hubs like casinos, museums, theme parks, zoos and restaurants, said The Mind Museum’s out-of-the-box exhibits made it stand out among other museums.

The Philippine museum “went the extra step in expanding science into a fully experiential world, creating unusual scale, playful details and interactivity throughout.

“The thematic thread and artistic treatments throughout the museum is what makes this project extraordinary by any standards. This world-class design combined with sensory-rich experiences make The Mind Museum a truly outstanding achievement in the museum category,” noted TEA.

Maria Isabel Garcia, the museum’s curator and a Rappler columnist, welcomed the award, saying The Mind Museum was indeed a labor of love of both scientists and artists.

“I thank our Board for believing and actively supporting the dream, the scientists here and all over the world who answered my cold emails, the artists, for this was a project that was built because we had the arts ‘rescuing the sciences.'”

The Mind Museum opened its doors in 2012 and features 250 interactive exhibits. A narrative format connects the 5 major exhibit categories: Atom, Earth, Life, Universe and Technology. – Rappler.com
