Three young students from Midsayap, North Cotabato will represent the country in two international Math competitions next month.

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Three young students from the humble town of Midsayap, North Cotabato, will represent the Philippines in two international Math competitions in August.

Nine-year-old Sophia Helen Gador, a Grade 4 student at the Midsayap Pilot Elementary School, will be competing against young math wizards from different countries at the prestigious International Mathematics Guild in Singapore on August 1 to 4.

Meanwhile, 3rd Grader Phillaeus Matthew Ostique and 5th Grader Jerson Claude Austria are flying to Taiwan on August 9 to 13 in their attempt to best others in the World Mathematics Invitational Competition.

Sharing that their inspiration is to bring in pride for their families, province and country, the students are presently undergoing rigorous training to prepare for these international competitions.

For Gador, she is doubling her efforts in studying because she considers this fight not just hers but also a fight for her class and parents.

“I will study harder to make my self better and I will do everything for this competition because I know this will not be an easy one. Right now, my inspirations are my parents, school and classmates,” Gador said.

North Cotabato governor Emmylou Taliño-Mendoza expressed her full support for the students explaining that it is an honor for the province to produce brilliant and excelling students.

Aside from moral support, the provincial government also provided financial assistance for the students to help cover their expenses during the competition. – Rappler.com
