Palarong Pambansa results highlights: Day 3

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – Today, NCR took the spotlight.

The Big City Swimmers got 12 out of 16 golds in today’s competitions, not to mention 2 new broken records.

Elementary

Athletics
Bicol Region’s John Roel Sariola threw the farthest in the elementary boys division of the discus throw with a distance of 28.9 meters, besting Gideon Arellano’s 27.1 meters.

Western Visayas nabbed gold with Pia Angelica Barcimo’s 10.31 meters, and silver after Ailyn Tumbali’s 9.96 in the elementary girls division of the triple jump.

Arnis
Mark Andrew Orcena and Jessica Cabano-Ang of Region 4-A both won the gold in the single-weapon anyo events for boys and girls. Orcena beat John Lloyd Salazar of Region 6 by .1 points.

Salazar redeemed himself when he and his partner, Jasper Jake Daliva, got the gold in the team double-weapon anyo event with a score of 45.4, while Region 12’s Kathryn Mae Canezarez and Al-Aira Eloisa Cervo topped the same event for girls with a score of 45.1.

Baseball
Baseball defending champion Region 9 won twice today, clobbering Eastern Visayas and Northern Mindanao.

CARAGA lost twice, getting beaten by Region 11 and Region 1.

Basketball
Central Visayas crushed SOCCKSARGEN with a 90-31 final score, while NCR defeated CARAGA 96-41.

Softball
Cagayan Valley defeated ARMM 7-0 in just two innings after play was stopped because of the mercy rule.

Swimming
CALABARZON reigned in the elementary division as Jose Mari Arcilla and Nicole Pamintuan topped the 200m freestyle for boys and girls, respectively.

Table Tennis
NCR, Northern Mindanao, Central Luzon, Eastern Visayas, and CALABARZON defeated their opponents in the boys division, while Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Cotabato, CARAGA, CALABARZON and Central Luzon won the girls division.

Tennis
Central Visayas dominated the tennis boys division, crushing Northern Mindanao 2-0 in the finals.

Volleyball
Bicol Region’s boys received a hard beating from Region 4A, while the girls from Northern Mindanao gave NCR a hard time with a 24-26 on the first set, 25-23 on the second set, and 25-22 on the third.

Secondary

Athletics
Jra Peralita Inot of NCR leapt a distance of 5.32m to bag the gold medal for the girl’s long jump in the secondary division. NCR clinched 2 spots in the top 8 with Genesaret Rivera finishing at fourth.

Danilo Abarra of Region 1 topped the javelin throw event with 51.51m.

Archery
Bianca Gotuaco of NCR nabbed the gold, garnering 337 points in the 30 meter event.

Janice Cababan of Northern Mindanao and Caitlin Ann Miciano both scored 307 in the 40 meter event, but the gold went to Cababan.

Arnis
Maximo Caballes Jr. of Central Visayas dominated the boys single weapon anyo event with a score of 92.5, while Crystal Aj Bartonico of Western Visayas scored a 92.9, bringing home the gold for the girls single weapon event.

Basketball
Region 11 got their second win, clobbering Region 2 with a score of 93-59. This is Region 2’s second loss to date.

Football
Yesterday, Region 4-B earned the highest number of goals yet, scoring 8 goals while opponent Region 1 scores 0.

Swimming
Delia Cordero wowed everyone as she broke 2 records after a year-long break from Palaro, while two-time Outstanding Palaro athlete Catherine Bondad topped the 400m freesyle competitions.

Table Tennis

Last year’s top regions, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, and Northern Mindanao all had victories in the boys division while Western Visayas and NCR owned the girls division.

Special Games
Calabarzon garnered 6 points in the special games, ranking 1st in Group A. They were followed by Region 11 with 3 points. In Group B, NCR ranked 1st with 3 points.
