Bobby Ray Parks Jr selected in second round of NBA D-League Draft

MANILA, Philippines – The NBA dream is alive for Bobby Ray Parks Jr.

The Filipino-American Parks was selected 25th overall in the 2015 NBA D-League Draft on Sunday, November 1, by the Texas Legends, which is the NBA D-League affiliate team of the Dallas Mavericks.

Parks, 22, played for the Mavericks’ NBA Summer League team in Las Vegas where he averaged 3 points and 1.7 rebounds a game in 10.5 minutes.

Parks, a former UAAP and PBA D-League MVP, became just the second Filipino to be selected in the NBA D-League draft after current Barangay Ginebra big man Japeth Aguilar was taken in the seventh round of the D-League’s 2012 draft.

Parks is a second-generation basketball talent. His father, the late Bobby Ray Parks Sr, was a 7-time Best Import awardee in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) and was inducted in the league’s Hall of Fame class in 2009.

The former NU Bulldog impressed Mavericks owner Mark Cuban during his brief D-League stint.

“He’s going to have to work hard to prove that he belongs,” Cuban said in a story on SB Nation’s Mavs blog. “I think he did really well.”

Former NBA players Jeff Ayres and Jimmer Fredette went first and second overall, respectively, to Idaho and Westchester in the draft

Former Oklahoma City Thunder Perry Jones III went number 3 to Iowa, who also selected Cartier Martin of Kansas State at number 4.

Rysheed Jordan of St. John’s went fifth overall to Delaware.
