MANILA, Philippines – Trying to prove doubters wrong after trading all their first round draft picks, Barako Bull Energy Cola fired a big rally in the second quarter and never looked back to destroy Air21 Express, 88-75, in the PLDT myDSL PBA Philippine Cup on Wednesday, November 20 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Willie Miller and Keith Jensen came off the bench as the Energy Cola opened the second quarter on a 14-2 tear to transform a slim 22-17 margin to a 36-19 edge early in the second quarter.

Barako Bull kept pounding Air21 with their outside shots and tight defense which enabled them to pull away at the half, 48-28.

In the third period, Coach Bong Ramos had another spark from his subs in JC Intal who provided two triples and a 3-point play; the Express continued to struggle as Barako Bull were able to establish their biggest lead at 63-30.

Asi Taulava and KG Canaleta led a late fightback from Air21 but they were outgunned from the start as they settled for a loss.

Mark Isip, who Barako acquired in a draft day traded, paced four Barako Bull players in double figures with 16 points. Joseph Yeo led the Express with 22 markers while Asi Taulava had 10 points and 16 rebounds in a losing effort. – with reports from Levi Verora/Rappler.com
