Stephon 'Starbury' Marbury is on his fourth visit to the Philippines for another round of charity events

Manila, Philippines – Two-time National Basketball Association (NBA) All-Star and two-tim Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) champion Stephon Marbury will return to Manila for a three-day visit starting July 25, Friday.

Marbury is going to make his fourth visit to Manila for a fundraising project and to officially launch his Starbury shoeline in the Philippines.

“I can’t wait to be back,” Marbury said through his agent, Sheryl Reyes. “The Philippines has always shown me love, and I truly appreciate that. I’ll be there soon.”

Among the list of activities Marbury is set to participate in includes a shoe drive with Philippine senator Sonny Angara in select areas. Furthermore, he will partner up with Jersey Haven for his “Jersey For a Cause” project, in which the proceeds will go to kids under the care of the Ahon Pamilyang Lansangan Foundation, and to members of the National Press Club of the Philippines who are in need of medical and educational assistance.

“I’ve been abundantly blessed and I want to be a blessing to others. A lot of people, especially the sick children, need help. I’m just doing what I can to make their lives a little better,” added Marbury

In his visit to Manila in 2013, he played an exhibition game alongside Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) stars.

Known as one of the most electrifying point guards in the NBA during his prime, Marbury was drafted fourth overall by the Milwaukee Bucks before getting traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 1996 NBA Draft after an impressive college career with Georgia Tech.

He would go on to play for four more teams in the league, including the New Jersey (now known as Brooklyn) Nets, New York Knicks, Phoenix Suns, and Boston Celtics, before moving to China to play for the Zhongyu Dragons and Beijing Ducks.

Marbury made All-Star teams in 2001 and 2003 and averaged 19.3 PPG and 7.6 APG in his 15-year NBA career.

In 2012, Marbury spearheaded the Ducks to the CBA title by leading them past seven-time champions Guangdong Souther Tigers in the finals.

Two years later, Marbury led the Ducks to their second title as they beat the Xinjoang Flying Tigers in the best-of-seven championship series. – Rappler.com
