MANILA, Philippines – Former NBA champion and head coach Brian Shaw is scheduled to arrive in Manila at the end of July as part of the 2015 edition of NBA FIT Week in the Philippines, the NBA and Gatorade announced through a press release on Monday, July 20.

Shaw, a 3-time NBA champion with the Los Angeles Lakers who also served as the head coach of the Denver Nuggets from 2013-2015, will be “providing advanced basketball instruction at this year’s Gatorade NBA Training Center in the Philippines,” according to the press release.

Going on its second year, the Gatorade NBA Training Center will gather “elite” instructors in the fields of basketball, fitness, conditioning, and nutrition to to share their knowledge to Filipino athletes and coaches. 

The 2015 Gatorade NBA Training Center, which will be held at the Gatorade Hoops Center, will take place on Wednesday, July 29.

Shaw is expected to “share personal drills and training techniques” with notable basketball personalities in the Philippines, namely Barangay Ginebra guard LA Tenorio, DLSU Green Archer Jeron Teng, NU Bulldog Gelo Alolino, Ateneo Blue Eagle Von Pesusmal, FEU Tamaraw Mike Tolomia, and UST Growling Tiger Kevin Ferrer. 

“I look forward to visiting Manila and witnessing first-hand the passion of the Filipino players and coaches,” Shaw was quoted saying in the press release.  

“The Philippines has produced great basketball talent, and I’m excited to share my knowledge with the participants to help them take that next step.”

Shaw played for for 7 NBA teams as a player: the Boston Celtics, Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, Golden State Warriors, Philadelphia 76ers, Portland Trail Blazers, and Lakers. 

Known throughout his career as a viable shooter, Shaw was also included in the NBA All-Rookie Second Team in 1989, months after he was taken 24th overall by the Celtics in the 1988 NBA Draft.

Shaw served as an assistant coach for Phil Jackson with the Lakers from 2005-2011, helping the win two NBA titles in 2009 and 2010. After spending 2011-2013 as an assistant for Frank Vogel with the Indiana Pacers, Shaw was hired by the Nuggets prior to the 2013-2014 NBA season.
