HIGHLIGHTS: Gilas vs China – 2015 FIBA Asia final

MANILA, Philippines – One win short.

Gilas Pilipinas failed to achieve their goal of a gold medal in the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship as they lost to Asian powerhouse and hosts China, 78-67, on Saturday, October 3 in Changsha, Hunan, China.

The Philippines settled for the silver medal and missed the outright 2016 Olympics berth. They will have to go through the tougher route of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament from from July 5 to 16, 2016. That qualifying tournament will have 18 national teams from FIBA’s primary events divided into 3 competitions of 6. The winner from each tilt will qualify for Rio 2016.

The Philippines has not played in the men’s basketball tournament of the Olympics for the first time since 1972.

The Filipinos, which also earned silver in 2013 and played in the 2014 FIBA World Cup, struggled against the bigger and younger Chinese.

Jayson Castro had his worst performance of the tournament with only 8 points but was still named to the Mythical Team.
