Steph Curry to sign 5-year, $201 million contract with Warriors

MANILA, Philippines – People won’t be calling Steph Curry underpaid any longer.

The Golden State Warriors and Curry have agreed on a 5-year, “supermax” $201-million deal, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. It is the richest contract in NBA history to date.

The star guard and two-time NBA MVP is finally getting a well-deserved massive payday after years of being “underpaid” with his previous 4-year, $44-million contract, which he signed in 2012 when he was still injury-prone.

Curry led the Warriors to their second NBA championship in 3 seasons earlier in June, vanquishing LeBron James’ Cleveland Cavaliers in 5 games.

He averaged 25.3 points, 6.6 assists, and 4.5 rebounds this past season but was not among the candidates for season MVP.

In the finals, Curry’s performance (26.8 points, 9.4 assists, and 8 rebounds per game) was impressive but was overshadowed by that of teammate Kevin Durant, who bagged the Finals MVP trophy.

Meanwhile, the Warriors have also come to terms with an extension for back-up guard Shaun Livingston, according to ESPN’s Chris Haynes.

The deal is worth $24 million over 3 years, with the last year partially guaranteed, per ESPN’s Zach Lowe.

Livingston has turned into a very reliable option for coach Steve Kerr off the bench, and often emerged as an additional source of scoring when needed. – Rappler.com
