Banal to Elite, Alolino to Phoenix in PBA regular draft

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – The Blackwater Elite selected Raphael Banal, the son of former coach Joel Banal, with the top pick in the 2016 regular PBA Draft on Sunday, October 30, at Robinson’s Mall, Manila.

The 24-year-old’s name was announced first following the Gilas special draft. Banal, a standout from Hope International University of California, will join Mac Belo as the new faces of the Elite. (READ: Belo goes to Blackwater, Jalalon to Star in 2016 PBA Gilas Draft)

With the second pick in the second/regular draft, the Phoenix Fuel Masters took NU’s Gelo Alolino, a former champion in the UAAP.

Jammer Jamito was taken third by Ginebra, while Joseph Eriobu of Mapua was selected fourth by Mahindra.

Former UE big Chris Javier went fifth to the Hotshots, while the Beermen took Rashawn McCarthy from Sunny Old Westberry with the sixth selection.

Former CSB standout and NCAA All-Star Jonathan Grey went to the Meralco Bolts with the seventh selection, while Reden Celda – a standout in the D-League – went to NLEX next.

Jericho De Guzman went to Ginebra with the 10th pick, while Jeff Javillonar was taken 12th by Phoenix. 

Rain or Shine and Alaska, selecting 9th and 11th, respectively, both passed.
