Fajardo leads PH Cup BPC race, Romeo catching up

MANILA, Philippines – Reigning 3-time league MVP June Mar Fajardo is on pace for a possible fifth Best Player of the Conference Award as he leads the race after the eliminations in the 2017 PBA Philippine Cup.

According to statistics released Saturday, February 4, the 27-year-old centerpiece of the San Miguel Beermen has 45.0 average statistical points after the defending champions secured the top seed with an imposing 10-1 record.

Fajardo is this conference’s two rebounder so far, norming 16.0 boards per game.

Guard Terrence Romeo is right behind him with 41.5 average statistical points. The Globalport BatangPier gunner is the league’s top scorer this conference with 28.7 points per game. Globalport finished the eliminations with a 6-5 record.

Both Fajardo and Romeo are playing in the quarterfinals with Globalport down one game against TNT in their best-of-3 showdown. San Miguel, on the other hand, holds a twice-to-beat advantage over Rain or Shine.

Arwind Santos (34.2 ave SPs) and Alex Cabagnot (33.4 ave SPs) of San Miguel, plus Japeth Aguilar (32.0 ave SPs) of Barangay Ginebra round out the top 5 in the running.

TNT’s veteran guard Jayson Castro, last conference’s Best Player and a usual contender, is far down in 14th place with his 28.44 average statistical points.

Phoenix’s Matthew Wright, the league’s leading rookie so far, is at sixth place with 31.7 average statistical points.
