KIA-Barako Bull tune-up halted following skirmish
A tune-up game between the KIA Sorento and Barako Bull Energy was brought to a premature ending following a skirmis late in the third quarter

MANILA, Philippines – A tune-up game between the KIA Sorento and Barako Bull Energy was brought to a premature ending following a skirmish between both sides late in the third quarter on Thursday, January 22, at the Green Meadows basketball court.

Both teams were playing physical as multiple hard fouls were committed throughout the game, leaving the coaching staff of both sides unhappy with the way officials called the contest.

“We were playing clean and they were playing dirty,” said new KIA import, 7-foot-3 big man PJ Ramos.

Barako import Solomon Alabi threw an incidental elbow at KIA big man Rich Alvarez that started the commotion.

Unhappy with how the referees missed a holding call on Alvarez prior to the thrown elbow, Barako head coach Koy Banal approached an official to complain.

Emotions escalated from there, as players from both teams got into verbal altercations. The most intense one involved Dorian Pena and Joshua Webb, as both teams separated the two before they nearly came to blows.

The game was stopped with the Sorento ahead, 74-59, with 21.7 seconds left in the third period. Ramos led KIA with 25 points.
