Willie Miller signs with former team Talk ’N Text for rest of season
The 37-year old two-time PBA Most Valuable Player is expected to help bolster the Texters’ backcourt in the heels of Jimmy Alapag’s retirement

MANILA, Philippines – The Thriller is back.

Veteran guard Willie Miller will see action once more in the PBA as he signed with his former team Talk ’N Text Tropang Texters for the remainder of the 40th season, team manager Jimmy Alapag confirmed Sunday, January 25.

The 37-year old two-time PBA Most Valuable Player, who played alongside gunner Alapag at Talk ’N Text from 2004 to 2006, is expected to help bolster the Texters’ backcourt in the heels of Alapag’s retirement.

“Throughout his career Willie has not only been a two-time MVP, but also a champion,” Alapag told Rappler. “He definitely adds depth and experience at our guard position.”

Miller, who has already started practicing with the Texters, was left without a team at the start of the season before the Philippine Cup when his contract with Barako Bull expired. He normed 9.1 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists with the Energy Cola last season.

He was thrust into retirement, being one of the aging veterans who fell through the cracks in PBA rosters.

Expansion team KIA Sorento reportedly expressed interest in signing the crafty guard who averaged 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists throughout his career. But Miller has since settled for staying in shape and participating in local community leagues.

The 11-time All-Star and two-time Best Player of the Conference (2005 Fiesta, 2009 Philippine Cup) will have a chance to prove he has more gas left in the tank as he tries to lead Talk ’N Text to a better finish in the import-laden 2015 PBA Commissioner’s Cup, which tips off on January 27.

The Texters were booted out of the recently-concluded Philippine Cup in the semifinals by eventual champions San Miguel. They hope to redeem themselves in the mid-season conference with comebacking import Richard Howell. – with reports from Rodneil Quiteles/Rappler.com
