Justin Melton's second attempt at the 2015 PBA Slam Dunk competition was ambitious, but didn't quite turn out how he envisioned it

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – After being named co-champion of the Philippine Basketball Association Dunk Contest in 2014, Purefoods’ Justin Melton entered this year’s competition on Friday as a favorite to take the undisputed crown.

What nobody expected was that he’d throw down perhaps the funniest attempt in dunk competition history.

On his second attempt of the first round, the 5-foot-9 guard was blindfolded with his Purefoods Star Hotshots teammate Joe Devance’s shirt. Melton then proceeded towards the basket, jumped a couple feet off the ground and spiked the ball as hard as he could – about 5 feet away from the basket.

The dunk earned him 5s from all 5 judges, eliminating him from the competition while last year’s other co-champion Rey Guevarra of the Meralco Bolts defeated Japeth Aguilar in the finals to win the title.

Melton, 27, later tweeted “Mahsaket pwet nayong hah,” or “My ass hurts right now.”

The dunk attempt has since gone viral, being posted on USA Today, SB Nation, Sporting News and other outlets.

Hey, look at the bright side Quick Melt. Nobody will accuse you of having a see-through blindfold like they did to Cedric Ceballos.
