Floyd Mayweather wants to promote MMA events
'I want a lot of MMA fighters to get in touch with Mayweather Promotions,' said the undefeated American boxer

MANILA, Philippines – Boxing pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. expressed his interest in promoting and managing fighters from the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA).

In an interview with FightHype.com, Mayweather opened up his intention in venturing into the MMA business and addressed the prize purse for competitors and how he plans on turning the tide.

“If you want to be treated fair, come over to Mayweather Promotions. We believe in the talent winning. That’s what we believe in. We believe in treating our boxers and our MMA fighters fair. I want a lot of MMA fighters to get in touch with Mayweather Promotions,” he said.

Aside from being a boxer, the 37-year-old American is the owner of Mayweather Promotions, handling various pugilists such as Mickey Bey Jr. and Ishe Smith.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission unanimously passed a motion this past July to allow Mayweather to become a boxing promoter in the state, which permits him to stage his own events.

Along with boxing, Mayweather made it clear that he plans on promoting MMA fight cards in the near future.

“I look forward to putting on my first MMA show also and having me some MMA champions. Like I said before, Floyd Mayweather loves to think outside the box. We’re not just one-dimensional. We are very versatile and we have an open mind,” he stated.

The 5-foot-8 “Money” revealed that he would like to serve as an advocate for MMA combatants because he has been told that they are not generating enough money.

“When I get into the MMA game, I want them to make more money than they’re making, because from what I hear, they’re not being treated fair. Once again, I don’t have nothing to say about nobody. I’m only talking about what I’m here to do. I’m here to treat fighters fair. I’m here to treat MMA fighters fair, and I feel that the talent should win,” Mayweather noted.

Mayweather vs MMA

Mayweather is known to be the most vocal critic of MMA as it was well-documented when he stated in a 2011 interview with CBS Sports that MMA was created out of a longing to see Caucasians succeed in combat sports due to their recent floundering in boxing.

The brash boxer mentioned during a dialogue with Showtime for his bout against Robert Guerrero in May 2013 that his opponent’s unrefined style was better suited for MMA.

While his desire in the aforementioned field was a bit surprising on its own, Mayweather asserted that he would like to work with UFC president Dana White.

“I don’t mind doing business with Dana White. Dana White is a cool guy. I’ve known Dana before he got involved with the MMA,” he affirmed.

White is notably not an admirer of Mayweather as he criticized the controversial athlete for his refusal to dance with Manny Pacquiao in one ring.

UFC’s head honcho also labeled the five-division world champion a racist for comments he made on NBA player Jeremy Lin in 2012.

Pacquiao, for his part, is also invovled in mixed martial arts. In August 2014, the eight-division world champion purchased an undisclosed amount of shares in the Singapore-based MMA company One FC.
