Mayweather signs up former foe as sparring partner
Mayweather and Corley are no strangers to each other, having fought each other in 2004 and working together in sparring prior to Mayweather's 2006 fight with Zab Judah

MANILA, Philippines – Floyd Mayweather Jr. has tapped former world champion DeMarcus Corley as one of his sparring partners as he prepares for his long-awaited bout against Manny Pacquiao on May 2 (May 3 in PH) at the 16,800-seater MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas Nevada.

According to a report by FightHype.com, Mayweather has acquired the services of Corley, who once held the WBO junior welterweight championship and defended it twice before dropping it to Zab Judah via split decision in July 2003.

Mayweather and Corley are no strangers to each other as both men faced one another in May 2004 when the 5-foot-7 southpaw from Washington, D.C. unsuccessfully tried to dethrone the unbeaten boxer for the WBC junior welterweight title.

In their 12-round meeting, Corley was able to stun Mayweather by landing a solid right hand in the fourth round.

Corley, like Pacquiao, is a left-handed boxer.

It marks the second time that Corley was tabbed to work with boxing’s reigning pound-for-pound king as he also served as chief sparring partner for Mayweather’s encounter versus Judah in April 2006.

The 40-year-old Corley was last seen in action this past September in a winning effort against Daniel Attah. – Rappler.com
