Floyd Sr takes shot at Freddie Roach’s speech
Floyd Mayweather Sr took a swipe at Freddie Roach, who suffers from Parkinson's disease, saying he can't speak clearly or hold the pads for his boxers anymore

MANILA, Philippines – The exchange of verbal jabs between two renowned boxing coaches would not cease as Floyd Mayweather Sr. took another swipe at Freddie Roach with less than six weeks before their respective valued pupils face each other in ring on May 2 (May 3 in PH).

The 62-year-old father and trainer of Floyd Mayweather Jr. aired his distaste about Roach’s comment that Mayweather Sr. is unable to give clear and competent instructions to his son during fights.

In addition, he appeared to take a deep dig at the ill-health of Roach, who has endured an extensive struggle with Parkinson’s disease.

“He had the nerve and the audacity to say some shit like that. Freddie, you have the problem, not me. Why are you not training all of your fighters anymore? Why do other people have to hold the mitts and speak for you,” Mayweather stated in an interview with FightHype.com.

Mayweather Jr. reunited with his father for his comeback bout against Robert Guerrero in May 2013, replacing his uncle Roger Mayweather, who worked with him for 13 years.

Roach, who trains the likes of Manny Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto and Zou Shiming, also drew criticism from Mayweather Sr. for relying half the load of his work to assistant trainer Marvin Somodio.

“How can you be a trainer when you can’t even hold the mitts? You ain’t talking about shit. Nobody knows what you’re saying anyway. You have others talking for you and holding the mitts for you. That’s why I call you a roach,” he added.

In a recent report by Rappler, Roach stressed that having Mayweather Sr. in the unbeaten American boxer’s corner would be a disadvantage versus Pacquiao in their heavily-hyped confrontation, which takes place at the 16,800-seater MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“Freddie doesn’t want Floyd Mayweather Sr. in the corner because he knows I’m the master. He doesn’t want the master in the corner,” said Mayweather Sr., who also went up against Roach and Pacquiao in May 2009 when Ricky Hatton was knocked out by the Filipino southpaw in the second round. – Rappler.com
