Ang Liga: Arellano drubs La Salle Lipa, Lyceum
The Arellano University football team scored back-to-back wins in week 5 of the Ang Liga pre-season tourney by downing foes La Salle Lipa and Lyceum Philippines University

MANILA, Philippines – The Arellano University (AU) football team scored back-to-back wins in week 5 of the Ang Liga pre-season tourney by downing foes La Salle Lipa (DLSL) and Lyceum Philippines University (LPU).

There was no shortage of goals as the Ang Liga Special Cup champions outplayed the hapless De La Salle Lipa booters, 12-0, in a goal-afflicted game at the San Beda College Football Field on Saturday, July 19.

The Legarda-based squad immediately shifted their offense to full gear from the start of the opening half to disconcert the defense of the DLSL kickers.

A few minutes into the game, AU’s offensive from line came knocking at the DSLS goal with a series of attacks deep inside the unchartered territory of their adversaries.

The offense of the Chiefs proved to be too strong for the ailing defense of the Lasallians of Lipa as a goal was sent to the back of the net by Angelo Guegon on the 35th minute to open the scoring frenzy for his squad.

Going into the halftime break, another goal was driven by Guegon to their opponent’s goal accompanied by two more goals by Jumar Dexisne and Jumbel Guinabang.

On the other hand, as the game got back into action, an unfortunate own goal was struck by La Salle Lipa’s Robert Malabao, which further extended the lead of AU, 5-0.

Goals seemed to fall like heavy rain for NCAA side team as Dexisne finds another opening in the defense of their foes and scores an additional goal for AU.

The offense of Arellano did not cease their outbreak until the last minute of the match as an added goal was tallied for Dexisne stretching his team’s lead to 9-0 and getting his much-deserved hat-trick.

The Red and Blue booters went goal-crazy as Kenneth De Leon and John Fucio also left their mark on the football onslaught by scoring two goals a piece.

With two minutes left, substitute Kaiser Orcine left his defender to notch the final goal for his men. The game ended in favor of AU, 12-0.

Arellano versus Lyceum

Meanwhile, to complete their weekend football crusade, AU also scored a win over the LPU booters, 1-0, in a heated game on Sunday, July 20.

To jumpstart the action for the bout between the two NCAA schools, a bombardment of shots on goal came from either side of the pitch as both teams were eager to secure wins for their home squads.

15 minutes into the game, a penalty kick was awarded to Arellano following a dangerous tackle by a Lycean defender from just inside the box.

AU’s start striker Alvin Obero converted on the penalty to score the lone goal of the game.
