Phil Younghusband optimistic about Loyola’s title chances

MANILA, Philippines – Despite sitting out the first two games of his club due to an injury, Phil Younghusband is confident about their chances of clinching this year’s United Football League (UFL) title.

The Loyola Meralco Sparks FC star striker told the media in an interview during the presser for his new sports show, with his brother James Younghusband, that even though they had a slow start to this season, he is happy with their two consecutive wins.

“We haven’t performed like the way we would’ve liked but we still won the games.”

The Sparks have notched a 2-0-0 win-loss-draw card after sailing through Team Socceroo FC and Manila Jeepney FC to open their campaign in the UFC. He said he was frustrated that he had skip those games of Loyola but stressed that he is impressed with the performance of the new additions to their team.

P. Younghusband, who has been a vital cog in the Azkals and Loyola FC frontline, is nursing a hamstring strain but is expected to be fit to play within the next 5-6 days.

Meanwhile, amidst the upcoming games of Global FC and Ceres La Salle FC in the AFC Cup, he said Loyola targets to acquire the same honor of representing Philippine football on an international level.

“Hopefully, next year. We feel that we have enough quality and I think we’re on the same level as Global and Ceres. It would be nice to see Meralco play there next year.” – Rappler.com
