WATCH: Copa America footballer gives new meaning to ‘dirty finger’

MANILA, Philippines – What’s the only thing worse than the trend of flopping in football? Getting a finger stuck in your butt, reacting subtly, then being handed a red card for reacting after the offender flops, and being sent off.

That’s exactly the situation Uruguay’s Edinson Cavani found himself in during his side’s 1-0 loss to host nation Chile on Wednesday, June 24, in their Copa America quarterfinal match.

After a verbal confrontation between the two, Chilean defender Gonzalo Jara nonchalantly strolled behind Cavani and tickled him where the sun doesn’t shine. 

Cavani, understandably perturbed, reacted with a light tap to Jara’s face, to which Jara reacted as if he had been punted in the jaw. Cavani was booked by referee Sandro Ricci and sent to the lockers.

The referees claim to not have seen the provocation, and it wasn’t until after the game that video footage surfaced.

The Telegraph reports that Jara had been involved in a similar situation with a Uruguayan player in 2013, when Luis Suarez punched Jara for reportedly grabbing his genitals in a World Cup qualifying match.

This particular “technique” became infamous in the Philippines in 2011 when Philippine Basketball Association player Mark Yee, then of the Talk ’N Text Tropang Texters, gave Petron Blaze Boosters import Anthony Grundy a rude awakening.

The damage was done as Chile now awaits the winner of the Bolivia vs Peru match today. Jara won’t be able to play with his team, however, after reportedly being suspended for the remainder of the tournament for his actions. – Rappler.com
