Vera, Parry battle for inaugural ONE Championship heavyweight belt
The inaugural ONE Championship heavyweight belt will be on the line when Brandon Vera meets Chi Lewis Parry on December 11

MANILA, Philippines – The inaugural ONE Championship heavyweight belt will be on the line in the highly-anticipated encounter between Filipino-American fighter Brandon Vera and British kickboxer Chi Lewis Parry.

The 37-year-old Vera posted a video on Friday, August 21 signing the fight contract to face the English stalwart in the main event of ONE: Spirit of Champions, which takes place at the 20,000-capacity SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on December 11.

ONE chief Victor Cui confirmed on Wednesday, August 26 that Parry has also put his signature on the agreement.

“We’re thrilled to be returning to Manila to bring our loyal fans one of the biggest fights of the year. Brandon Vera and Chi Lewis Parry are two of the most exciting heavyweight fighters in the world, and with the ONE heavyweight title on the line we can expect a fantastic fight. These two have been on a collision course for some time, and it will all come to a head at ONE: Spirit of Champions,” he stated.

Vera received numerous callouts from Parry as the British behemoth blatantly claimed that the former Ultimate Fighting Championship superstar was avoiding a fight with him inside the ONE cage.

Parry (6-0, 1 NC) is one of the few heavyweight prospects in the Asian mixed martial arts circuit today, finishing six of his last seven professional outings by either knockout or submission.

However, Parry was last seen in action on ONE’s “War of Dragons” undercard in July 2014 when he thwarted Alain Ngalani with vicious elbows in the first round of their rematch.

Vera (13-7, 1 NC) last competed in his December 2014 promotional debut, where he defeated Ukrainian heavyweight Igor Subora with a straight left and follow-up soccer kicks in the first round. – Rappler.com
