Eustaquio, Toquero added to ONE FC’s Manila event in December

MANILA, Philippines – Although 3 Filipino fighters have already been slated for ONE Championship’s year-end event, two more representatives from the Philippines have been booked for the “Spirit of Champions” fight card on December 11. 

Geje Eustaquio is set to square off with Chinese flyweight Yang Jian Bing, while Eugene Toquero will meet another 125-pound Chinese competitor in Wu Ze.

Eustaquio (6-4) is coming off a two-fight losing skid and has not won a single bout since outpointing Kentaro Watanabe in June 2014 to earn the opportunity to vie for the inaugural ONE flyweight championship against Adriano Moraes.

During that stretch, the 26-year-old Team Lakay representative yielded to Moraes via second-round submission in September 2014 before Anatpong Bunrad spoiled Eustaquio’s road back to another ONE flyweight title shot as the Thai kickboxer walked away with a split decision victory this past April.

The man standing in his re-entry to the winner’s column is Yang (5-1, 1 NC), who seeks to redeem himself after bowing down to his compatriot Wu by split decision last June.

In the other match-up, a tough test awaits Toquero as he dances with Wu inside the ONE cage.

Toquero (7-2) is fresh from a 3-round drubbing from Asuka “Riku Shibuya” Mikami in October, while Wu (3-2) had two successful ONE outings earlier this year but lost his bout to Min Seok Kwon in August under the Road Fighting Championship banner.

ONE: Spirit of Champions, which takes place at Pasay City’s 20,000-seater SM Mall of Asia Arena, is headlined by Filipino-American stalwart Brandon Vera battling Chi Lewis Parry for the first ONE heavyweight belt.

Mark Striegl faces Jordan Lucas in the co-main event, while former boxing world champion Ana Julaton makes her return inside the ONE cage following a one-year hiatus as she locks horns with Irina Mazepa. – Rappler.com
