Pinoy fighter Rolando Dy slated for PXC 55 in Guam
Dy is slated to lock horns with up-and-coming Australian combatant Aydin Mrouki in a 3-round featherweight bout

BULACAN, Philippines – Filipino fighter Rolando Gabriel Dy will have a new opponent in his third fight this year as he is scheduled to compete on the undercard of the PXC 55 event on November 18

Dy is slated to lock horns with up-and-coming Australian combatant Aydin Mrouki in a 3-round featherweight bout.

The 25-year-old Filipino was supposed to challenge Alex Volkanovski for the PXC featherweight title on the same card, but it was cancelled after the latter signed an exclusive deal with the Ultimate Fighting Championship and relinquished his possession of the silver-plated strap.

Dy (7-4) made a triumphant return to featherweight in January of this year with a lopsided decision win against compatriot Miguel Mosquera.

Proving that he is a worthy contender in the 145-pound weight class, Dy knocked out previously-unbeaten Japanese stalwart Koyomi Matsushima last April.

Dy finished the job in just 23 seconds by delivering a counter left hook before polishing off his Japanese opponent with hammerfists to compel referee Jacob Guerrero to wave it off.

With Volkanovski parting ways with the Guam-based mixed martial arts (MMA) organization, it appears that Dy will take another detour before getting a crack at the PXC featherweight belt.

In the other corner, Mrouki (1-0) made his successful professional MMA debut in April by scoring a unanimous decision victory at the expense of Pinoy fighter Jaypee Espinosa.

Getting a win over Dy will create a huge impact on the career of the young Aussie and could raise his stock as a prizefighter as his opponent is a former two-time PXC title challenger.

PXC 55 is set to take place at the University of Guam Field House in Mangilao, Guam. – Rappler.com
