Brandon Vera defends ONE Championship title against Japanese fighter
Brandon Vera will defend his ONE heavyweight title vs Hideki Sekine on December 2 in the Philippines

MANILA, Philippines – Filipino-American fighter Brandon Vera will defend the ONE Championship heavyweight title for the first time as he is slated to headline the Singapore-based mixed martial arts (MMA) organization’s ninth live event in the country on December 2.

The 39-year-old native of San Diego, California faces Japanese combatant Hideki Sekine in the main event of ONE Championship’s “Age of Domination” card, which takes place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Vera (14-7) captured the inaugural ONE heavyweight belt in December 2015 by knocking out Taiwanese-Canadian stalwart Paul Cheng.

The former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) star got the job done in just 26 seconds, delivering a thunderous head kick to become the first heavyweight champion in the promotion’s history.

It will only be Vera’s third ONE Championship outing since parting ways with the UFC in June 2014.

In the other corner, Sekine is undefeated in his 7-year professional MMA stint, having an unblemished record of 7-0.

The 43-year-old Japanese fighter has only gone the distance once in his prizefighting career as he owns 3 knockout victories and 3 submission triumphs.

It will be Sekine’s promotional debut when he shares the ONE Championship cage with Vera on December 2. – Rappler.com
