Dustin Johnson replaces injured Day in PH charity game

MANILA, Philippines – Reigning US Open champion Dustin Johnson will take the injured Jason Day’s place in a charity golf game against Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy on November 28 Pradera Verde Golf & Country Club in Lubao, Pampanga.

The news was broken on Twitter by Vincent “Chot” Reyes, president of TV5 Network, which will air the event between Johnson, the world number two, and McIlroy, the world’s number 3 player and a winner of 4 Majors. The “Battle for a Cause” event will benefit TV5’s Alagang Kapatid Foundation.

The world number one Day, a Filipino-Australian, withdrew from the event and the World Cup in Melbourne, Australia from November 23-27 after tearing a ligament in his back.

The visit was originally scheduled to include a dinner gala and charity auction on November 28 and a “Beat the Pros Challenge” on November 30 where Filipino golf fans could interact with the players. A request for additional information from Reyes on whether these events would still take place and how tickets could be purchased was not immediately answered. – Rappler.com
