Rousey meets Davis in UFC 175 co-headliner

MANILA, Philippines – UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey is set to defend her belt against Alexis Davis in the co-main event of the UFC 175 pay-per-view event, which takes place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on July 5 (July 6 in the Philippines).

Company head honcho Dana White broke the news Saturday, Philippine time, on his personal Twitter account.

There was much speculation that Rousey’s next bout would be against now-movie star Gina Carano as she reportedly met the UFC president earlier this week. However, Carano’s plans remain uncertain.

Rousey is unbeaten in her nine professional outings and spearheaded her mixed martial arts (MMA) career with eight-straight triumphs by armbar submission.

Most recently, the 27-year-old “Rowdy” picked up a first-round technical knockout victory over Sara McMann at February’s UFC 170, needing just 66 seconds for her first non-submission win and third successful title defense.

On the other hand, Davis (16-5) is riding high on a five-fight winning streak and holds notable Octagon triumphs over Rosi Sexton, Liz Carmouche and Jessica Eye.

Outside the confines of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), the 5-foot-5 “Ally-Gator” thumped a handful of female MMA standouts, including Shayna Baszler, Hitomi Akano, Amanda Nunes and Julie Kedzie.

UFC 175 is headlined by a middleweight championship clash between current titleholder Chris Weidman and Lyoto Machida. The fight card also includes a grudge match between Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva. – Rappler.com
