ONE FC: Chi Lewis Parry calls out Brandon Vera
'If you’re still in the game for glory and not just the money, then accept the fight. It’s that simple.'

MANILA, Philippines – With the sole intention of vying for the inaugural ONE Fighting Championship (ONE FC) heavyweight belt, Chi Lewis Parry issued a challenge to Filipino-American fighter Brandon Vera.

In an interview with online media outlet WHOATV, the 31-year-old Parry expressed his desire to face Vera for the heavyweight division’s available world title.

“I’m undefeated and I’m a title contender; so therefore, that makes me the guy to fight for the title. Do you not want to best yourself by fighting the best guy? I do. That’s why I’m choosing you [Vera],” he said.

Along with fellow heavyweight contender Igor Subora and Pinoy standout Cary Bullos, Parry (6-0, 1 NC) was one of the free agents that Asia’s largest mixed martial arts organization had acquired in March 2014.

The 6-foot-9 native of London, England has won 6 of his 7 professional matches by either knockout or submission.

Parry was last seen in action as part of the ONE FC: War of Dragons undercard last July 11 when he thwarted Alain Ngalani in the first round with vicious elbows.

Since Vera’s successful ONE FC debut this past December, Parry disclosed that he called out the former UFC superstar on different occasions, but he did not get the response that he was waiting for.

“I have asked enough. I called him out on social media. In fact, the fans voted for me versus Vera as one of the top fights to be seen in 2015. The best way is to stay on it,” he shared.

Parry shot down the buzzing notion that Vera is petrified to lock horns with him inside the ONE FC cage, citing the latter’s vast experience in the prizefighting scene

“I don’t think he’s scared. I think he sees me as a difficult guy to fight,” he quipped.

During his 8-year UFC stint, Vera (13-7, 1 NC) has fought the likes of Frank Mir, Tim Sylvia, Fabricio Werdum, Randy Couture, Jon Jones and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, among others.

“In terms of experience, he surely does feel that he can walk through me with all of the guys he fought. Well, I’m an easy fight for you, so you got nothing to lose but all to gain,” Parry noted.

After receiving a warm reception in his first promotional appearance, the 37-year-old Vera is expected to be booked for ONE FC: Valor of Champions, which takes place at the 20,000-seater SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila.

On the other hand, Parry is lobbying for a three-round bout against Vera since he has not competed for 7 months.

“If you’re still in the game for glory and not just the money, then accept the fight. It’s that simple,” he dared.

Even if a heavyweight showdown between him and Vera would provide an entertaining all-out exchange as both men are known to be strikers, Parry does not mind if the Fil-Am stalwart would snap his undefeated streak.

“If he beats me for the title, not only he becomes a champion, he becomes the first guy to give me a loss. I don’t see as a bad thing,” Parry asserted. – Rappler.com
