Manabat, Pablo come back strong as NU stops surging FEU

MANILA, Philippines – Veterans Dindin Santiago-Manabat and Myla Pablo returned with a bang to lead National University to a sweep of Far Eastern University, 25-23, 26-24, 25-19, in the Shakey’s V-League 12 Collegiate Conference on Saturday, August 8 at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Manabat, a guest player for the Lady Bulldogs, topscored with 15 points while Pablo backed her up with 13 after both came back from national team duty in the VTV Cup in Vietnam.

Jaja Santiago, who held the fort in the absence of the team’s veterans, finished with 10 points including 3 blocks as NU finished the eliminations on back-to-back wins for a 4-1 record in Group A at first place.

Tied for the top spot are the Lady Tamaraws, who dropped their first game after a 4-game winning streak in disappointing fashion.

FEU put up a decent fight in the first two sets with the match tightly contested all throughout, but lacked the killer instinct to turn back a more experienced NU side.

The Lady Tamaraws lost steam in the third set.

Mary Joy Palma led the Lady Tamaraws with 10 markers as Bernadeth Pons added 7 points.
