The Ateneo Lady Eagles, representing Team UAAP-Philippines in the ASEAN University Games, yield to Indonesia in 4 sets

MANILA, Philippines – Indonesia dealt a heartbreaking 4-set loss to Team UAAP-Philippines represented by the Ateneo Lady Eagles, 21-25, 25-17, 25-14, 25-22, Monday, July 11, in the opening of the 18th ASEAN University Games women’s volleyball in Singapore.

The Lady Eagles took control of the first set courtesy of 3-time UAAP Most Valuable Player Alyssa Valdez. But powerhouse Indonesia proved their mettle and capitalized on the latter’s weak floor defense to cruise through sets two and 3.

Ateneo tried to extend the match in set 4 with Indonesia at match point, 24-20, but Michelle Morente committed a service error and handed the opponent the victory.

Indonesia brought home the silver medal in 2014 while the Philippines finished with bronze.

The Philippines will next clashe with defending champion Thailand on Tuesday at 2 pm at the National University of Singapore as well, and will face the host country on Thursday, 2 pm. – Rappler.com
