NAKHON RATCHASIMA, Thailand — Against the Asian giants, the Philippines proved to be too inexperienced.

The Power Pinays fell to top-ranked China in straight sets, 9-25, 10-25, 8-25, in the 2013 Asian Volleyball Championships on Sunday, September 15 at the Chatchai Hall here.

The Philippine spikers tried their best to give the Asian powerhouse a great fight, but the Nationals just couldn’t break through the Chinese to fall to their third straight defeat.

The loss sent the Power Pinays out of quarterfinal contention and thus fell to the classification round for 9th to 12th places.

Despite easily beating the Filipinas, China coach Lang Ping said her crew learned lessons from their 16th-ranked opponents.

“I think today is different,” she said. “There are some irregular balls — drop balls. We don’t have that. We are learning.”

PH coach Nes Pamilar shared that while the Power Pinays got waylaid, his team proved that they have the heart to battle bigger foes.

“Nakita naman natin na pag pinapaluan sila, naitataas nila,” he quipped. “We’ll get there. With hard work, we will.”

Aiza Maizo top scored for the Philippines anew with 10 points off 9 hits and an ace as they could not overcome the absence of team captain Angeli Tabaquero, who missed the game due to a sprained ankle.

“We didn’t want to risk it,” said team physician Dr. Raul Alcantara. “Sabi ko na lang, mas makakatulong siya kapag gumaling siya kaagad.”

Zhu Ting paced China with 19 points spiked by 12 hits, 4 blocks and 3 aces even as Hui Ruoqui and Zeng Chunlel added 12 and 10 markers, respectively. – with reports from Mark Dionisio/Rappler.com
