PH women’s volleyball team to join Vietnam tourney
The Vietnam Television (VTV) Women’s Invitational Cup often draws national and club teams from around the world, including Japan and the United States

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine national women’s volleyball team will have another international tour of duty on July 25, when they travel to Vietnam for the Vietnam Television (VTV) Women’s Invitational Cup.

The team, composed of UAAP, NCAA and pro players like Alyssa Valdez, Aby Marano, Rachel Anne Daquis and more, will work together once more following their stint at the 28th Southeast Asian Games in Singapore – which was the country’s first time to send a team to the biennial event in 10 years. The Philippines defeated Malaysia but lost to Vietnam and Indonesia.

The tournament often draws national and club teams from around the world, including Japan, the United States and Australia. Vietnam won the last edition in 2014.

According to ABS-CBN, Larong Volleyball Sa Pilipinas Inc. president Joey Romasanta was initially hesitant to commit to the tournament due to a lack of funding before the Philippine Sports Commission stepped in to assist.

“We’re glad that the organizers recognized the talent and potential of our women’s volleyball team. We’re looking forward to a successful participation and the experiences we will gain from a tournament like this,” said Romasanta. – Rappler.com
