Gameplan: Exploring Salvador Benedicto
The Gameplan hosts go off the beaten path and head to the mountainous municipality of Don Salvador Benedicto in Negros Occidental

Traveling doesn’t end in exploring different cities. Some of the most beautiful gems can be found in the area that surrounds it. About an hour and a half away from Bacolod City is the mountainous municipality of Don Salvador Benedicto, where Gameplan hosts Amanda, Ton and Julian got a taste of the laid back, yet adventure-filled life.

“It was actually a great change from city life, you know, being around cars all the time. It was such a nice, refreshing change to be in that environment,” said Amanda.

The trio started their adventure with a trek to Malatan-og Falls, one of the tallest in Negros Occidental. “It was very high up and staring at it really, we’re like, what a great natural thing that we’re looking at,” she said.

Amanda also learned the art of kali from the elders of Salvador Benedicto. Kali, which is also referred to as “arnis” or “escrima” is part of the cultural heritage of the locals. “The teaching was coming from something very pure because the traditions are passed down. There was a sort of authenticity to what they’re doing,” she said.

“I love learning new things, and that was just one aspect of the Philippines that I learned in 20 minutes and I really enjoyed it,” she said. – Rappler.com
