Cojuangco gets fourth POC presidency term
Cojuangco, 82, runs opposed after PH boxing head Ricky Vargas is disqualified

MANILA, Philippines – It’ll be 4 more years for Jose “Peping” Cojuangco Jr as president of the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) after winning his fourth term on Friday, November 25 at Wack Wack Golf and Country Club.

Cojuangco, 82, ran opposed after Ricky Vargas, president of the Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (ABAP), was disqualified as a candidate after he and Abraham Tolentino, who was running for chairman, were deemed ineligible by the election committee under Article 7 Section 11 of the POC constitution which states that a candidate for office must be “an active member of the POC general assembly for two consecutive years at the time of their election.”

An attempt to obtain a temporary restraining order against the elections was denied on Thursday by the Pasig Regional Trial Court.

Vargas decided not to attend as Cojuangco was given 26 votes from the 40 voters in attendance.
