Cebu roads closed for Ironman triathlon on August 2

LAPU-LAPU CITY, Philippines – Several roads will be closed on Sunday, August 2, in Mandaue City in Cebu to make way for the Cobra Ironman 70.3 Triathlon, the biggest sporting event hosted by the province for 3 consecutive years now.

Specifically, the roads that will be closed to motorists include the ones that lead to the Mactan-Cebu International Airport as well as the streets leading to resorts in Lapu-Lapu City; the South Road Properties and the South Road Tunnel in Cebu City; the Ouano Aveue in Mandaue’s reclamation area up to the Marcelo Fernan Bridge; and, the South Coastal Road and Talisay Fish Port to Cong. Bacaltos Road, to make way for the Cobra Ironman 2015.

The events will be generally held at the Shangri-la’s Mactan Island Resort and Spa in barangay Punta Engano in Lapu-Lapu City but the biking event will run throughout Cebu, Mandaue, and Talisay cities as well.

Organizers plan to close these and other streets from 5 am to 2 pm. Road blocks will be installed in most of the intersections to strictly prevent vehicles from entering the star-studded race route.

On August 1, 2015 or a day before the Ironman event, Lapu-Lapu City will also play host again to the Alaska IRONKIDS which will also implement a total road closures on most streets leading to resorts such as the Angasil road, Kabesang Tasyo road up to Mangal Punta Engano. It will be closed to vehicular traffic from 6:00 am up to 10:00 am only.

“Motorists, hotel guests, and residents who are affected are advised to leave the place earlier before the event starts,” said the advisory issued by the Lapu-Lapu City government. – Rappler.com
