Woes continue for PH golfer Tabuena after hurting shoulder

MANILA, Philippines – The second round of golf in Rio wasn’t kind to Filipino golfer Miguel Tabuena as he finished at 4-over 75 on Friday, August 12 (Saturday Manila time) as concerns over his right shoulder arose.

Tabuena tells veteran reporter he was in intense pain, saying “If not for this flag on my shirt I would’ve quit.” Tabuena, who is ranked 146th in the world by the PGA, finished at 2-over after the first 18 holes. He is now sitting at a tie for 52nd place after opening the first few holes of action at 2-under in a tie for seventh.

A 3-putt bogey set the tempo for the 21-year-old on the first hole as he managed only two birdies – on the 5th and 8th holes – and maintained par on his final 5 holes.

The second round of golf at Rio, which is making a comeback to the Games after a 112-year absence, saw a comeback as well for American Bubba Watson, who climbed out of the cellar in the first round to crack the top 10 on day two with a 2-under.

The third round gets underway in Rio on Saturday, August 13 at 6:30 pm Manila time. – Rappler.com
