Perpetual Help bounces back strong, demolishes Lyceum
The Altas improve their win-loss record to 8-3

MANILA, Philippines – Following a disappointing defeat to Mapua Institute of Technology last week, University of Perpetual Help System Dalta returned to its winning ways with a strong statement on Tuesday, September 1, at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan City.

The Aric Del Rosario-mentored Altas dominated Lyceum of the Philippines from start to end to pick up a 70-42 victory and improve their win-loss record to 8-3 in the ongoing NCAA Season 91 men’s senior basketball tourney.

“It was a tough loss against Mapua. Well, that’s basketball. But I am happy that the boys woke up this time around and the loss served as a motivation to win this game,” Del Rosario stated in the post-game interview.

John Ylagan had 12 of his 15 markers in the first half to come along with two boards, two assists and two steals.

Meanwhile, PBA-bound Earl Scottie Thompson had another triple-double performance, registering 13 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists.

Back-up bigman Prince Eze filled in the void of Bright Akhuetie, who sat out the entire second half after injuring his shoulder when he tangled with Lyceum’s Jean Nguidjol in the dying seconds of the second quarter.

“We are still waiting for the doctor’s final assessment. However, it’s not that serious. Bright wanted to play in the second half, but I opted not to field him so he can recover,” Del Rosario shared.

Although he only made 4 baskets in the first half, Eze started to heat up in the third quarter and punctuated his monstrous outing 18 points, 19 rebounds, and 6 blocks.

“He stepped up big time. We will need this kind of performance from him against the big teams in the league like San Beda and Letran,” the Perpetual Help head coach said of the 6’11 reinforcement.

With the lopsided loss to Perpetual Help, Lyceum downgrades to a 3-8 standing.

The Intramuros-based Pirates were led by NCAA All-Star slam dunk champion Jebb Bulawan, who hauled 13 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 steals.
