FEU Tamaraws clobber Green Archers, improve to 2-1
A 20-0 third quarter blows a tight contest wide open as the FEU Tamaraws rebound from their loss to UST

MANILA, Philippines – Behind a game-deciding 20-0 run in the third quarter, the FEU Tamaraws displayed their full strength and clobbered the De La Salle University Green Archers, 93-75, to improve to 2-1 in the UAAP standings on Sunday, September 13, at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The game was tight in the first two periods and in the first few minutes of the second half before the Tamaraws flipped the switch by forcing the Green Archers into contested jumpers on defense and connecting on their own attempts from downtown to change the landscape of the contest.

Mike Tolomia scored 16 points in the first half and finished with 20 along with 5 dimes and 3 boards, while Mac Belo did most of his damage during garbage time but still managed 17 points, 4 boards, and 4 assists.

New FEU import Prince Orizu, who went scoreless in his first two games, registered 12 points and 9 boards as the Tamaraws beat the Green Archers for the fifth time in the past 6 games.

“I actually, I was medyo (a bit) scared playing La Salle after that loss to UST. I didn’t know how they would react, but it’s very positive,” said Tamaraws head coach Nash Racela after the game.

His team exploded for 32 points in the third quarter, most coming after La Salle had pulled within 57-54 midway through the third period. It was all Tamaraws from there, as RR Pogoy, Achie Inigo, and other guys off the bench hit 3-balls while DLSU went scoreless the rest of the quarter.

Pogoy fought through an ankle injury he sustained in the first quarter and finished with 8 points, while 4 different Tamaraws put up 6 points each, displaying the biggest strength of their team: depth.

“The challenge is will we be able to sustain that… it’s very unpredictable. Season 78 is very unpredictable,” Racela said after the contest.

DLSU was led by the 29 points of Jeron Teng, who also had 10 boards and 5 assists in one of his best UAAP career games. Andrei Caracut and Julian Sargent finished with 13 and 11 points, respectively. Jason Perkins struggled for the second straight game as he finished with just 5 points on 2-of-8 shooting.

“We were more focused on Perkins because natakot kami kay (we were scared of) Perkins, but Jeron is Jeron,” Racela said.

The Tamaraws will be back in action next Sunday, September 20, when they face the UP Fighting Marooons. La Salle will be back in action on the same day against the Adamson Soaring Falcons.
