Ateneo beats UP in Battle of Katipunan

‪MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – The Ateneo Blue Eagles defeated the UP Fighting Maroons, 79-64, in the first installment of UAAP Season 79’s Battle of Katipunan to grab solo second place in the league standings on Wednesday, September 28, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.‬

Led by the strong play of Thirdy Ravena, the Blue Eagles won their second straight game and improved to a 4-2 record with a game against rival La Salle remaining on their first-round schedule.‬

Ravena scored a season-high 22 points to go with 10 rebounds and 3 assists, while Chi Ikeh added 14 points, 7 rebounds, and a team-high +24. ‬

After trailing UP, 17-13, following a quarter of play, Ateneo opened the second period with a 10-0 run to take control of the game. The Maroons were able to slice the deficit to 4 in the third period, but the Blue Eagles managed to keep them at bay and cruise to the win.‬
