Girl Power: Adamson Lady Falcons unveil all-female coaching team
The Lady Falcons hope to foster a winning mentality this UAAP season as they welcome new head coach Airess Padda

MANILA, Philippines – Adamson University formally welcomed American coach Airess Padda as new head coach of the Lady Falcons for the upcoming University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 79 Women’s Volleyball tournament that will commence February next year.

Padda will be backed up by an all-girl staff, with ex-UAAP stars Cherry Macatangay, Michele Gumabao and Angeli Tabaquero joining the pack as assistant coaches.

“I think it [all-female coaches] is gonna be very powerful. Growing up when I was playing volleyball, every female coach I’ve ever had just has been able to get to me. They relate [to the team],” said Padda, who once served as a mentor for the Malibu High School Team.

“For us, it’s not just about volleyball. We want them to grow up as powerful women. When you combine the sport with that attitude, it takes the athlete somewhere else. It makes them play at another level.”

The Lady Falcons, which will be led by team captain Jema Galanza next year, finished Season 78 with a win-loss record of 3-11.

The former Los Angeles Golden Eagles standout shared that her main goal this season is to shift the squad’s mentality into creating a winning culture for Adamson.

“For the past season, they finished at the bottom of the UAAP. My biggest challenge was changing the mindset- that they weren’t good enough, or that they could never be good enough.”

It’s been a successful year so far for the Falcons, with their Men’s Basketball Team entering the Final Four and their Cheerdance squad finally gaining its first podium finish in recent years. Padda can only hope that this will add to the Lady Falcons’  positive mindset come next year.

“Expect a lot of spirit, a lot of teamwork. And a lot of fight. Laban!” – Rappler.com
