UAAP Jrs MVP Baltazar to play for DLSU after Gob injury – source
The 6-foot-7 Justine Baltazar led the NU Bullpups to the UAAP juniors title last season

MANILA, Philippines – With the DLSU Green Archers losing second-year big man JBoy Gob to an injury, the team is set to line up reigning UAAP junior’s MVP Justine Baltazar from NU high school in the upcoming Season 79 men’s basketball tournament, a source told Rappler on Tuesday, July 26.

The source said Gob suffered a torn anterior cruciate legament (ACL) during a practice game of the Green Archers last week and is set for surgery at St Luke’s Medical Center in Bonifacio Global City on Friday.

Baltazar, a 6-foot-7 center out of Pampanga, led the NU Bullpups to a 14-0 elimination round record and the championship in last season’s UAAP juniors tournament.

He won the Finals MVP after lifting National U past De La Salle Zobel in 3 games and averaging 16 points, 20.3 rebounds, and 3 blocks a game for the series.

Baltazar, who has drawn comparisons to Rain or Shine big man Raymond Almazan, was originally set to debut for the Green Archers in 2017, but the injury to Gob had sped up his debut.

According to the source, Baltazar already has his papers from NU and is eligible to play this season.

The addition of the Pampanga native makes up for the loss of Gob and adds to the big man depth of DLSU, which started a frontcourt of Ben Mbala and Abu Tratter during its unbeaten campaign in the FilOil preseason tourney.

Former UAAP Mythical First Team player Jason Perkins is also set to return for the Green Archers this season. – Rappler.com
