Mustre leaves DLSU, confirms move to Adamson
Guard Terence Mustre says he wants to show what he can do on the basketball court and to take the next step of his career with the Adamson Falcons

MANILA, Philippines – UAAP guard Terence Mustre is leaving De La Salle University and plans on moving to Adamson University, he told Rappler on Tuesday, February 11.

Mustre, son of former PBA player Mike Mustre, played a total of 10 minutes for the Green Archers in his rookie season in 2014. He played in only 6 games, scoring one point and grabbing two rebounds.

“I decided to leave DLSU because I want to play basketball,” Mustre said in an exclusive interview with Rappler. “Yeah, it’s La Salle, it’s a big name when it comes to education and basketball. But I also had to look forward to where I wanted to be.”

Mustre, 21, played high school basketball in London for Harris Academy, where he built a reputation for being a speedy playmaker who had the capability to hit outside shots.

However, he received limited playing time with DLSU due to their loaded collection of perimeter players: Jeron Teng, Almond Vosotros, Thomas Torres, Kib Montalbo, and Robert Bolick.

A few weeks ago, Bolick announced that he was also leaving the Green Archers.

“I did talk to [Green Archers] Coach Juno [Sauler] about leaving. All I really want is to play and show people what I can do. I just need a break for me to show it,” said Mustre.

He confirmed that he is leaving La Salle to play for the Adamson Soaring Falcons, who need all the talent they can get after getting just one win in 14 games in the UAAP Season 77 men’s basketball season.

Mustre, who led Harris Academy to a number of championships in London and was named the MVP of the 2013 England Basketball/BCS Under-19 Premier Championship, can give Coach Kenneth Duremdes and his team just that.

“I will be moving to Adamson. I know people will think, ‘Why Adamson when you came from La Salle?’ All I can say is, I want to play and follow my dad’s footsteps.”

Mustre’s father was a key rotation player for the San Miguel Beermen in the PBA and for the Letran Knights in the NCAA.

“My plan is to follow or continue where my dad ended. If not, we’ll see how life goes on,” said Mustre.

Although he received limited playing time in his lone year with the Green Archers, Mustre isn’t leaving La Salle without great memories. “I learned a lot lessons,” he says. “There’s too much to say.”

He pointed out the relationships he established with his teammates, saying: “It’s really tough [to leave], because I met such good people. I know one season with DLSU was not enough to build something with the team, but we actually became a family. So it’s really hard.”

DLSU has been informed of Mustre’s decision to leave the team.

The Archers added two more players to their roster to make up for the absence of Mustre. Andrei Caracut from San Beda, and Jollo Go from Hope Christian High School have committed to joining DLSU and head coach Juno Sauler said he’s excited to have them.
