The National University Pep Squad copped their second consecutive crown in the 2014 UAAP Cheerdance Competition Sunday, September 14 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The NU Pep Squad fell to third place in this year’s National Cheerleading Championship but managed to pull off a clean and pristinely executed routine to win the UAAP cheerdance plum.

At first runner-up once again was the UP Pep Squad with 658 points. They had back-to-back bridesmaid finishes since last year. UP last won the title in 2012. 

UP impressed once with a socially relevant theme of equality, which they translated to dance effortlessly behind their usual solid supporters. But it wasn’t enough to give them what could have been their 9th title.

The UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe returned to the podium this year finishing at second runner-up with 625 points with a Chinese dynasty theme. The last time the 8-time champions finished in the top 3 was win 2010 and they last won a championship in 2006. 

NU took home P340,000 as UP received P200,000. UST, meanwhile, had P140,000.

Adamson University came in fourth with a score of 600, Far Eastern University (599.5), De La Salle University (557), University of the East (503), Ateneo De Manila University (494.5).

Meanwhile, the FEU Cheering Squad topped the Group Stunts Competition with UST and NU coming in at first runner-up and second runner-up, respectively. – Rappler.com
