The NU Lady Bulldogs completed a 16-game sweep of the UAAP Season 77 women's basketball tournament by capping their season off with a 2-0 finals series victory over the FEU Lady Tamaraws

MANILA, Philippines – The NU Lady Bulldogs completed a 16-game sweep of the UAAP Season 77 women’s basketball tournament by capping their season off with a 2-0 finals series victory over the FEU Lady Tamaraws, 59-48, on Saturday afternoon, October 4, at the Mall of Asia Arena.

NU entered the fourth quarter of the game with a slim four-point lead, but quickly established a 49-40 edge after opening the final period with a 9-4 run.

However, Far Eastern University didn’t go down easily as they scored the game’s next five points to trim the lead back to its deficit when the fourth quarter opened.

Needing to stop the bleeding, NU turned to Trixie Antiquiera who hit two critical 3-balls to push her squad’s advantage back to 8, 55-47.

The Lady Bulldogs didn’t relinquish their lead the rest of the way and cruised to a perfect season and the championship.

Gemma Miranda was named the Finals MVP after going off for 14 points and 8 rebounds in game two and averaging 13 PPG and 9.5 RPG in the finals.

Andrea Tongco and Antiquiera also pitched in by contributing 12 points each in the series-clincher while FEU was spearheaded by Ana Valenzona, who had 14 markers and 6 boards.

The Lady Bulldogs swept all 14 games in the elimination round and didn’t suffer a defeat in the finals to finish their campaign a flawless 16-0 and win their first women’s basketball championship in school history. Rappler.com
