MANILA, Philippines – Perlas Pilipinas, the national women’s basketball team, settled for a silver medal in the 27th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games with a 80-31 blowout win over host team Myanmar on Monday, December 16 at the Zayyarthiri Indoor Stadium.

The taller Filipinas pounded the host squad inside the paint where they scored most of their baskets. They outscored Myanmar, 28-10, in the third quarter and kept pressing in the fourth period to put up their biggest lead at 80-29.

Camille Sambile paced the nationals with 22 points, while Cassy Tioseco added 13 markers.

The cagebelles jumpstarted their SEAG bid with a 65-59 win over Malaysia, but were outclassed by reigning gold medalists Thailand, 36-75.

They managed to beat Indonesia, 55-43, to wound up with a 3-1 win-loss card, enough for a silver medal. They finished behind the unbeaten Thailand crew, which once again copped the gold medal. – with reports from Levi Verora/Rappler.com
