WATCH: LG G6 or Samsung Galaxy S8?
These two flagships have eerily similar specs. Which one has the slight advantage, spec-wise?

MANILA, Philippines – South Korean tech giants LG and Samsung are about to engage in a massive throwdown. The LG has its G6 while Samsung has its S8. The two are being released days apart in the Philippines: The G6 on April 29 and the S8 on May 5. The G6 sells for P37,990 while the S8 is 39,990. (Read: LG officially launches the LG G6 in PH)

They’re millimeteres apart price-wise – much like their screen sizes. The G6 has a 5.7-inch display while the S8’s is 5.8 inches. Both displays are Quad HD and both have unusual aspect ratios: The G6 has an 18:9 aspect ratio while the S8 sports an 18.5:9 one. That’s why they appear longer than the typical 16:9 display. LG calls its screen the “FullVision Display” while Samsung has its “Infinity Display.”

But there is one important spec where the S8 is better than the G6: the processor. The G6 uses the Snapdragon 821 chip, Qualcomm’s best chip in 2016. The S8 uses the Samsung Exynos 8895 chip, Samsung’s best chip in 2017, and roughly the equivalent of Qualcomm’s best chip in 2017, the Snapdragon 835. The 835 is found in the US version of the S8. So if you’re after the best processor, go for the S8. (Read: WATCH: Samsung reveals the Galaxy S8 at Samsung Unpacked 2017)

The G6 also has some nifty tricks like its audio-enhancing Quad DAC feature, dual-lens camera and Dolby Vision technology that broadens the color range. The S8 has the Bixby virtual assistant, an iris scanner, and phone-as-desktop-computer functionality with the DeX. Both phones are well-thought-out with their own set of novel features. But the S8’s newer processor gives it a slight advantage. – Rappler.com
