MANILA, Philippines – Sony confirmed on Friday, June 10, that the so-called PlayStation 4.5 – a more powerful PlayStation 4 – is real. 

Andrew House, President and Group CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, told the Financial Times that the new console is “intended to sit alongside and complement the standard PS4.” 

House also said that the company will be selling both the PS4 and the PS4.5 through its life cycle.

He also mentioned that the PS4.5 would cost more than the PS4, but did not specify if the PS4.5 would cost more than the current price of the PS4, or if the PS4.5 would replace the PS4 in pricing, with the price of the PS4 going down after the eventual release of the new console.

Sadly, the console won’t be shown at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). 

The news will likely temper expectations of a PS4.5 announcement at E3, and may draw more attention to any potential upgraded console announcements from Microsoft, such as the rumored Microsoft Scorpio. (READ: What to look forward to at E3 2016)

In its report, Kotaku added the PS4.5 will support 4K resolutions, but not much else was said about its product specifications. – Rappler.com
