MANILA, Philippines – Users of PlayStation Now overseas, such as those in Europe and the US, will soon be able to have the PlayStation gaming experience on their personal computers.
Sony told gamers on Tuesday, August 23 (August 24, Manila time) that its streaming game service, PlayStation Now, would be able to stream or broadcast PlayStation-exclusive titles to the Windows PC. In this case, PlayStation 3 (PS3) classics such as Uncharted 3, The Last of Us, and God of War III will be available to play on PCs.
The company added, “Current subscribers have a new way to access PS Now’s library of over 400 games, and the PC app provides a new way for even more gamers to discover and play the service.”
The service is currently set to launch in parts of Europe, with US release dates to come.
The DualShock 4 Wireless Adaptor
To coincide with this new initiative, Sony will also be introducing the DualShock 4 USB Wireless Adaptor in early September.
As the name implies, this $25 (P1,163) device will allow users to “connect a DualShock 4 to PC and Mac wirelessly, and will enable every feature of the controller you know and love: buttons, analog sticks, touch pad, light bar, motion sensors, vibration, and stereo headset jack – as long as the gaming application supports these features.”
Do note that you can still connect a DualShock 4 controller to a PC using a USB cable, though the device does appear to streamline the process significantly.
While their announcement for the adaptor does mention PC and Mac connectivity, PlayStation Now functionality is currently strictly for the PC. Sony’s Andrew Kelly mentioned in a comment reply that they are still evaluating Mac support for PlayStation Now.
Sony previously pushed for some form of Remote Play of Playstation games on a PC back in March, with patch notes that suggested the PlayStation 4’s 3.50 update would incorporate remote play. – Rappler.com
