Pornhub offering to buy Vine from Twitter?

MANILA, Philippines – Adult website Pornhub may be coming to the aid of Twitter and Vine, reportedly offering to buy Vine from the microblogging site.

A CNET report on Thursday, October 27 (October 28, Manila time), said Pornhub vice president Corey Price sent a letter to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey asking about Vine, which Twitter said it would discontinue in the coming months. (READ: Twitter announces Q3 2016 revenue of $616-M, 9% staff cut)

The letter, shared to CNET, read: “We figure since Twitter has dropped [Vine] and is having significant layoffs, that you and your stakeholders could benefit from a cash infusion from the sale of Vine. Not to mention we would be saving Vine gems like ‘Damn Daniel,’ ‘Awkward Puppets,’ and many more.”

Pornhub added that it would “restore Vine to its NSFW glory,” referring to the return of quick pornographic clips.

The adult company said clips “of porn in 6 seconds is more than enough time for most people to enjoy themselves.”

Pornhub has previously come out with marketing initiatives that capitalized on trends and, at times, on the shock value of a pornography outfit doing business. These include the adult site attempting to sponsor an intercollegiate football club and coming out with Netflix-like premium subscription tier.

Whether Twitter chooses to strike a deal with Pornhub for Vine will likely depend on both Pornhub’s seriousness regarding an offer, and how Twitter chooses to deal with an actual offer should one come. – Victor Barreiro Jr/Rappler.com
