MANILA, Philippines – Huawei announced its own wearable device called the TalkBand B1, a smart device that allows fitness buffs to track their daily activities and make calls. (READ: Mobile World Congress 2014: What to expect?)

The TalkBand B1 sports a 1.4-inch flexible OLED display on the band itself, and comes with a removable, Bluetooth 4.1 wireless earpiece tucked inside the band for users to take calls.

The TalkBand B1 supports calls on Android 2.3+ and iOS 5.0+ compatible devices, with an estimated battery life allowing up to 7 hours of continuous calls. It also supports near-field communication, vibrating if it is more than 10 meters away from a synced smartphone.

The device also has fitness tracking functionality. The TalkBand B1 tracks activity time and progress, noting the number of steps taken, miles covered, and the number of calories burned. It can also record the duration and quality of sleep, with a smart alarm system and napping functions that allow the wearer to rest better.

The TalkBand B1 is also designed to prevent aging and discoloration, using hypo-allergenic, sweat-resistant, and anti-UV materials in its production. It is also relatively lightweight at 26 grams.

The wearable device uses a 90 mAh battery, which allows for up to 6 days of use without the need to recharge but can take around two hours to fully charge.

The TalkBand B1 will be available in China next month, with Japan, the Middle East, Russia, and Western Europe set to receive it in Q2 2014. The Talkband is priced at 99 euros (approximately US$135 or P6,000). – Rappler.com
