MyPhone unveils Rio, a colorful sub-P5K smartphone
Available in rainbow colors, the MyPhone Rio is currently the most affordable quad-core smartphone in the Philippines

MANILA, Philippines — Is it possible to find a solid quad-core Android smartphone for under P5,000 ($110)? This is the intent and the challenge of Philippine smartphone brand MyPhone with the launch of its latest smartphone the Rio.

The popular local brand known for its budget smartphones unveiled the new phone at its ”Find Your Color” event at the Greenhills Promenade on Thursday, April 10.

A cross between the iPhone 5C and Google’s Nexus 5, the Rio comes in 7 colors – blue, orange, red, yellow, green, black and white – all of which sport removable polycarbonate plastic shells.

The 5-inch smartphone sports a 720p HD display and runs off a 1.3 GHz quad core processor and 1GB of RAM. It comes with 4GB of storage (expandable to 32GB with a optional micro SD card), and 8 and 2 megapixel main and front facing cameras respectively.

Side by side with today’s top smartphones, the Rio’s spec sheet is modest, but in its price point the phone is unchallenged. It offers great design, enough software customizations, and a decent spec sheet that is good enough for the everyday user on a budget.

The phone is available via all of MyPhone’s retail channels across the Philippines for P4,995 (about $110).  — Rappler.com
